An inquest was launched this week into the death of a worker employed by concrete contractor PC Harrington on the Wembley stadium project.

Patrick O’Sullivan, 54, from Ealing, west London, died in January 2004 when a platform dropped more than 30m on top of him. The platform fell after it was snagged by a crane. David Bailey, a fellow worker, told the court he heard a “loud thunderous noise”.

The inquest was scheduled last for four days, concluding on Thursday, after Building went to press. An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive is continuing.

A memorial for O'Sullivan was unveiled at the stadium in north-west London last month.
