Contractor wins contract on RMJM-designed law school that aims to acheive BREEAM excellent rating

ISG has secured a £7.1m project to build a law school, designed by RMJM, at the University of Hertfordshire's de Havilland campus.

The building will enable the relocation of all existing facilities, at the nearby St Albans campus, to purpose-built accommodation.

At the heart of the two-storey, concrete-frame structure is a fully functioning court room with public gallery, as well as a mediation centre, law clinic, a range of teaching space and a cafe.

The 24,000 sq ft building features a central full height circulation space and the building will achieve a BREEAM excellent rating, with an efficient CHP system and natural ventilation.

The Law School will feature rainscreen cladding, curtain walling and curved glazing to its facade, with significant hard and soft landscaping, a car park and secure bicycle storage area.

The project is due to start at the end of April, with completion scheduled for March 2011.
