Birse has now taken over work, part of a Liverpool council framework which Prismo joined in 2004.

Prismo was selected alongside Balfour Beatty and Kennedy Asphalt to bid for street improvement work in the city.

But it has failed to win a single contract on the three-year framework, known as the City Centre Movement Strategy, which in the run-up to it becoming European Capital of Culture in 2008.

Balfour Beatty and Kennedy have completed several projects under the framework.
