Building will provide gallery space, an auditorium, studio, cafes, a restaurant and a museum shop

The Qatar Museums Authority today revealed its plans for the new National Museum of Qatar, designed by Pritzker prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel.

Prominently located on a 14ha site at the south end of Doha's Corniche, where it will be the first monument seen by travellers arriving from the airport, The National Museum of Qatar building will provide 8,000m² of permanent gallery space, 2,000m² of temporary gallery space, a 220-seat auditorium, a 70-seat studio, two cafes, a restaurant and a museum shop.

The museum will be surrounded by a landscaped park that interprets a Qatari desert landscape.
