An electrician working on the Jubilee Line Extension at Southwark was attacked by a site foreman last week.

The foreman, who was employed by M&E contractor Drake & Scull, was sacked later the same day.

Both men are members of electrical union AEEU, and it is understood the 30-year-old foreman intends to ask the union to appeal against his sacking.

AEEU organiser Frank Westerman said: “We don’t condone violence by anybody.” Electrician Steve Murray, 56, was attacked days after appearing on television criticising JLE foremen.

Murray had taken part in Channel 4’s investigative news programme The Mark Thomas Comedy Product, on which he claimed workers on the JLE were being “bullied” by “aggressive” foremen.

A spokesman for Drake & Scull said: “The behaviour shown by the foreman was totally unacceptable. His contract has been terminated and, as far as we are concerned, that is the end of the matter.” Murray said: “My nerves have been damaged by the whole incident. It’s been a real shock to the system.” He was forced to remain at home for two days following the assault, returning to the project at the end of last week.
