Southwark Easter event is branded demeaning for job seekers

Licences to work on building sites are to be included in an Easter egg job hunt at a JobCentre Plus in south east London.

The hunt, which has been branded humiliating, will see around 150 job seekers hunt out 35 chocolate eggs hidden in a JobCentre Plus office in Southwark on Wednesday. Finding an egg will result in a prize which could be anything from shopping vouchers to buy clothes for interviews to payment for a license to work on a building site.

Other prizes include standard job application forms. The hunt has come under criticism for being demeaning. The Metro reported one job seeker saying: “Some of us are not proud of signing on and this just rubs our face in it.”

The JobCentre Plus office involved has defended the hunt saying it was meant as a bit of fun.
