Shakespeare North Playhouse due for completion in April 2020
Kier has won a £19m contract from Knowsley council to build a new Shakespeare theatre in Prescot town centre, Merseyside.
When complete, the Shakespeare North Playhouse will include a 350-seat theatre, performance studio, exhibition and education centre, coffee shop and office space.
Work is due to start on site in April and complete to coincide with William Shakespeare’s birthday in April 2020. The Playhouse will then welcome its first guests later that year.
During construction of the Playhouse, 11 new apprenticeships will be created and once complete, will create over 200 permanent roles and attract over 100,000 visitors each year.
Full planning permission was granted in April 2016 and again in November 2017 when an updated design for the building was approved.
