Scheme will have close to 500 beds

Kier has been appointed to build a 491-bed student accommodation scheme for Manchester Metropolitan University.

The second phase of Birley Residencies (pictured), designed by JMA, will have three blocks standing at six, 11, and 16 storeys.

Consultants working on the scheme include Tace on MEP, Curtins on civils and structurals, Omega on fire and Hann Tucker on acoustics. 

The ground floor will also have a gym and group study areas.

Manchester Met is redeveloping its Birley Fields campus which will include building 1,170 student residencies.

The digs will be located at Manchester Met’s campus in Hulme, to the south of the city’s centre.

Last week, Kier was chosen to build the university’s new arts £17m facility designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios.
