Rem Koolhaas’ Office of Metropolitan Architecture came ahead of 135 others to win a competition to design a performing arts centre in Taipei

The €90m (£80m) building will include a 1,500-seat theatre, contained in an exterior “cannonball”, and two 800-seat theatres in the central cube, which will be clad in corrugated glass. Arup is the structural engineer. Completion is due in 2013.
