Firm will provide ballast and other materials over five years

Materials specialist Lafarge has won a contract with Network Rail worth up to £35m over five years.

The framework will see Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK provide ballast and other crushed rock material from Mountsorrel Quarry, near Loughborough.

Lafarge hopes to supply more than a million tonnes of product a year – a fifth of Mountsorrel’s annual output.

The deal will ensure £2m investment in new machinery at Mountsorrel Quarry, and will help secure the future of the 100 plus workforce.
