Rafael Viñoly Architects, part of the Think team that failed in a bid to design the World Trade Centre building in New York, has unveiled plans for its first UK project. The Leicester Performing Arts Centre is a key project in the council's £60m regeneration plan for the city's St George's Cultural Quarter. Viñoly's glass-fronted cultural complex will include two auditoriums, production workshops, rehearsal rooms, seminar spaces, restaurants and bars. Work is due to begin on site in April next year, with completion in 2006. Structural engineer is Adams Kara Taylor and M&E engineer is Arup.
