Chief executive Greg Clarke brings in former Cable & Wireless colleague to replace John Spanswick.
Lend Lease chief executive Greg Clarke this week appointed a former Cable & Wireless colleague to take over as the head of the property and construction group's European operations.

Adrian Chamberlain, who left the telecoms company as strategy, business and development director last month, succeeds John Spanswick as Lend Lease Europe's chief executive today.

Spanswick was promoted to that role in February after Lend Lease's commercial interests were brought into one European division, which also covered the Middle East and Africa.

He will retain his role as chief executive of Bovis Lend Lease, to which he has also been appointed chairman.

In a company statement on Tuesday, Clarke said: "In recent months I have been discussing succession planning in the European region with John. We agreed it would be appropriate that John should enable his successor to take up the leadership and benefit from John's experience."

Clarke added: "John will work very closely with Adrian and will continue to be actively involved in Bovis Lend Lease for some time to come."

He also outlined the management structure at Bovis beneath Spanswick.

Jason Millett will run the contractor's UK arm, Sergio Casari will handle its European business and Doug Chalmers will be in charge of defence-related work. Dennis Bate and former chief operating officer Les Chatfield will be special client directors.

Spanswick said: "I'm looking forward to working with Adrian as we enter the next exciting phase in the development of our business."

Chamberlain, 46, left C&W after eight years at the firm. Prior to that he was marketing and commercial director at department store Sears.

The management reshuffle follows Lend Lease announcement last month that it had made a pre-tax loss of £234.7m for the year to 30 June. Bovis Lend Lease's pre-tax profit increased 14% to £86.2m for the same period.

Clarke was chief executive at C&W Communications before joining Lend Lease last December.
