Knauf takes St Helens factory offline after demand from housebuilders drops

Knauf Insulation has closed its St Helens factory for three months because of reduced demand from housebuilders.

The factory makes glass mineral wool insulation and said the closure was necessary because stock levels at the factory had become so high.

The firm said that demand created by government energy efficiency schemes was less than it had expected.

The factory will reopen in the first quarter of next year.
