Construction manager Mace is managing a £190m Spanish retail and leisure development on the outskirts of Madrid.
The firm is working for US-owned Mills Corporation and will act as project, construction and cost manager on the 120,000 m2 Xanadu centre. Mace is also acting as technical architect, as required by Spanish regulations. The scheme will include 220 shops, restaurants, cinemas and sports facilities.

The Mace team also includes UK architect Chapman Taylor, structural engineer Hyden and M&E specialist Roberts and Partners.

Mace Madrid managing director Paul Rose said the firm had secured outline planning permission for the whole scheme, which was unusual for Spain.

The scheme is set to be completed in March 2003.
