Network Rail has expanded Mace’s role on the £600m revamp of Birmingham New Street station to include acting as principal contractor

Mace, previously project delivery partner, will be responsible for the management and construction elements of the build. A Network Rail spokesperson said: “Mace has been doing an excellent job, so we expanded its role.”

The news comes after the project was granted full planning approval last week.

Some 50 packages of work will now be let. The largest, for the glass and steel facade and the atrium roof, will go out to tender in the next few weeks.
