John McAslan + Partners’ lattice-work roof incorporates 1,000 tonnes of steel

Major construction work on King’s Cross station’s Western Concourse has been completed. The elliptical lattice-work roof incorporates 1,000 tonnes of steel and covers an area equivalent to six Olympic-size swimming pools. The structure has been designed by John McAslan + Partners and will replace the temporary seventies concourse when it opens for the Olympic Games. The scheme is part of the £500m King’s Cross redevelopment programme. The contractor for the project was Vinci with Arup as the engineer.
