Contractor Mansell expects that its joint-venture one-stop shop Prop.Com will begin to generate returns by the end of the year.

The new firm is a collaboration with WS Atkins and Drake & Skull aimed at companies with international property interests. Clients are demanding a single point of responsibility for construction, maintenance and facilities management, according to Mansell, and Prop.Com is a response to that demand.

Mansell added that it intended to create further strategic alliances with European and US businesses in the near future. The firm has also established a national projects division and is increasing its involvement in the growing social housing sector.

The new division is dedicated to engaging with government procurement trends in education, healthcare and private finance initiative, the firm said.

The announcements came as Mansell released its results for 1999. Last year saw the firm’s turnover grow 6% to £447m and pre-tax profit increase 12% to £7.1m.

Chief executive David Beardsmore said he expected continued improvement in 2000. He said: “Each of our businesses has begun this year well, and the group as a whole looks set to benefit from the favourable market and economic conditions forecast for the next two years.”
