Police confirm arrest of man following death of worker on JV rail extension scheme

A man has been arrested on charges of manslaughter following the death of a construction worker on a joint venture project by Skanska and GrantRail in London.

The victim was killed early yesterday morning while was working on the £211m Docklands Light Railway extension.

The site is believed to be a former surface railway route between Canning Town station and Stratford International, now being converted to DLR use.

West Ham tube station was shut at around 9am for two hours following the incident, as the route under construction runs parallel to underground rail tracks.

The British transport police confirmed in a statement the arrest of a man “in connection with the death of a man who was crushed by machinery”.

The incident remains under investigation.
