Implementation plan reveled next week

Paymaster general Francis Maude will announce how the government intends to implement its comprehensive construction strategy to cut the cost of public construction by 20% at an event next Tuesday (19 July).

The implementation plan will be unveiled by Maude and chief construction adviser Paul Morrell at an event at the Treasury to introduce the strategy to contractors.

Launched last month, the strategy sets out a series of measures to radically overhaul public procurement, including setting cost benchmarks for all public projects and the roll out of building information modeling.

Stephen Ratcliffe, director of the UK Contractors Group, said: “The key issue is getting the government to implement this strategy. The economic conditions are such that this is now on the agenda.”
