Contractors McNicholas Construction and Broadband Services International have halted construction work for client Omne after the digital communications firm was put into administration last week.
An Omne spokesperson confirmed that it had gone into administration as a result of problems within the telecoms market and the collapse of ITV Digital.

She said: “We have suspended our three-year build programme and we do not know when the programme will be resumed.” The spokesperson refused to be drawn on the cost of the building programme.

McNicholas and Broadband signed three-year deals with Omne to provide construction for cabling last year.

Tony Smee, McNicholas marketing director, said that the suspension had had a dramatic effect. He said McNicholas was working solely on installing cabling in Carlisle, Cumbria.

Smee said: “We had signed a multi-million pound contract so this obviously is going to be a blow.”
