Social housing sector in London, Berkshire and Midlands proves fruitful for Mears group

The Mears Group has won two social housing contracts worth £170m, in a further indication that the sector is thriving as the private housing sector slumps.

One of the contracts, with the Metropolitan Housing Trust (MHT), is valued at £157m over a ten-year period. The MHT is one of the largest housing trusts in the country, and Mears will act as sole partner to repair, maintain and decorate its 30,000 properties in London and the Midlands over a ten-year period, starting from 1 October.

Mears’ other contract win is with Bracknell Forest Homes, which owns over 5,600 properties in Berkshire. The £13m contract is to provide Decent Home works over a four-year period.

Bob Holt, chief executive of Mears Group, said “The pipeline remains strong and I look forward to bringing news of further contract awards in the near future. Our order book now stands at £1.6 billion and the visibility of future revenues has been enhanced.”
