Japanese developer joins rush upwards in the Square Mile

Mitsubishi Estate has added ten storeys to its Square Mile tower ahead of re-submitting it for planning.

Japan’s leading developer and architect Wilkinson Eyre have stretched the tower out to 50-storeys in height, up from the 40-storey scheme consented by planners almost two years ago.

The new plans - which are expected to be re-submitted shortly - are in part a response to a flurry of consents for tall towers nearby, including 1 Leadenhall, 1 Undershaft and 22 Bishopsgate.

The office-led tower, to be called Prussian Blue, retains its stepped concept and a public viewing gallery in a rooftop pavilion.

Stanhope is development manager on the scheme for Mitsubishi Estate, while Arup is the structural and services engineer and Alinea is the cost consultant.
