Construction group acquires rail infrastructure business Gleeson MCL for £23.3m.

Construction group Morgan Sindall has acquired Gleeson MCL, a subsidiary of MJ Gleeson Group, for £23.3m, it was announced today.

The acquisition, predicted by Building (24 February 2006), will increase the size of Morgan Sindall's infrastructure services division Morgan Est.

Gleeson MCL employs 143 staff and specialises in building and civil engineering infrastructure for the rail industry, and will now become Morgan Est Rail.

Danny Duggan, Gleeson MCL's managing director, joins the Morgan Est board and will head up Morgan Est Rail reporting to Mark Cutler, Morgan Est's new managing director, who joined the company last month from Carillion.

Morgan Sindall will take on Gleeson MCL's existing contracts which include a five-year construction framework agreement with London Underground.

Gleeson MCL has extensive experience of new build, refurbishment and maintenance of stations, bridges and other non-track rail assets for its clients that include: London Underground Ltd, Network Rail, Tube Lines, Metronet, Dockland Light Railways and Local Authorities.
