Redundancies are in addition to job losses announced earlier this year

Mouchel has axed 200 managers following pre-tax losses of £14.75m.

The consultant has seen its losses increase and revenue drop by 15% as it is hit by the drying up of work in the Middle East and public sector cuts.

In annual results to 31 July pre-tax losses grew from £13.5m to £14.75m, which the company partly blamed on the “collapse” of work in the Middle East.

Revenue shrank from £740.6m to £632.6m, pushed down by a drop off in work for Network Rail and a fall in the workload for the water business.

The consultant also announced that Sir Michael Lyons, who will step down as the chairman of the BBC trust  in April next year, will replace Rodney Westhead as the senior independent director.
