Build UK has welcomed two new members in the form of contractor J Murphy & Sons Limited and the Asbestos Removal Contractors Association (ARCA).

Murphy said it had been attracted to Build UK by the organisation’s track record of leadership on industry issues and bringing the contracting supply chain together.

Suzannah Nichol, chief executive of Build UK, said: “It’s fantastic to welcome two new members, Murphy and ARCA, into Build UK membership and we look forward to working closely with both of them.

“We’ve had great success with the recent publication of the Build UK Training and Safety Helmet Colours Standards and these are just the first of many that our members anticipate with a view to driving real and positive change in the industry.”

Bill Merry, business development and communications director for Murphy, said: “Joining forces with Build UK is a great opportunity for us to work even more closely with our partners and peers to share ideas and best practice.

“We hope that together we can help drive the need for innovation and collaborative working as part of the supply chain, so that the construction industry can continue to improve and develop.”

Meanwhile, ARCA hopes to work with Build UK to promote one training standard for asbestos removal across the construction industry.

ARCA Chief Executive Steve Sadleysaid: “The health and safety of the workforce and public is critical with regard to the removal of asbestos, a Category 1 carcinogen. At ARCA we are committed to promoting safety and professionalism throughout the licensed asbestos removal industry, and welcome the opportunity to work with other leading trades to ensure asbestos is properly managed throughout the construction industry.”
