Deal with Wakefield council to see new homes and workspaces built in Castleford
Muse has been appointed by Wakefield council as its strategic partner for the regeneration of Castleford.
The developer will work with the council to revitalise Castleford’s town centre, strengthen connections to the riverside and create new residential and commercial areas.
The appointment, made through the Pagabo framework, adds to Muse’s work as strategic regeneration partner for Wakefield city centre.
The firm’s other roles in the North-east of England include regeneration schemes in Bradford, Hull, Gateshead and Sunderland through its partnership with Homes England and Legal & General, called ECF.
Matthew Pinder, Wakefield council’s cabinet member for district regeneration and regional growth, said the Castlefield programme will “bring forward projects that attract investment, improve connections across the town centre, and create new opportunities for residents and businesses”.
Simon Dew, Muse managing director for Yorkshire and the North-east, described Castleford, the largest town in the Wakefield district, as a place with “huge potential”.
“It has all the ingredients for long-term success, including excellent connectivity, a growing programme of investment, and a real sense of ambition for the future,” he said.
“Together, alongside the council and other key partners, we want to create places that support healthier, more connected communities, deliver much-needed affordable homes, enhance public spaces and help attract further investment into the town,” Dew added.
Muse and Wakefield council said they would draw up a shared vision and delivery strategy for the town over the coming months, with individual projects brought forward as plans progress.
