Manchester's landmark millennium project, the £30m Urbis Centre in the city centre, was topped out this week.
The building, dedicated to exhibitions, is due for completion next spring. Ian Simpson Architects' competition-winning design features four levels of exhibition space served by a diagonal funicular lift. The building is developed by Manchester council's special projects. Contractor is Laing, exhibition coordinator is DEGW, structural engineers are Martin Stockley Associates and Halcrow Waterman, services engineer is Farley McGrath and quantity surveyor is Davis Langdon & Everest.
