PCKO Architects has won a planning appeal to build six modern homes on a backland site in a conservation area in Wanstead, north-east London.
In what is regarded as an important test case of PPG3-style urban densification, planning inspectors commended the £750,000 scheme's "sensitive and imaginative" modern design, overturning the local planning committee's decision. It said the homes were out of keeping with the surrounding Victorian housing. Developer is London Wall Properties. No other appointments have been made yet.
