Carillion subsidiary reaches financial close on £12.1m contract

Carillion’s inspiredspaces subsidiary has reached financial close with Nottingham City Council on a £12.1m redevelopment of Elis Guilford School in Old Basford.

The project is one of the last to be completed under the BSF programme after the school secured funding of over £11m.

Doubts initially surrounded the project’s future following the government’s BSF review. The project has now been approved despite a 4% cut in the government grant.

A new block will be constructed to house special needs students and will include a new canteen, teaching classrooms and performing arts space.

Jim Mason, director of major programmes, said: “This project is about more than bricks and mortar ” it is about transforming the teaching and learning experience to ensure that children get the most out of their school life and reach their full potential.

“Reaching financial close is an important milestone and means that construction work on this exciting project can begin.”

Construction work will start later this month with project completion scheduled for autumn 2012.
