New guidance will help councils meet renewable energy targets in local plans.

The ODPM has published guidance for planners on renewable energy. Planning for Renewable Energy is a companion guide to Planning Policy Statement 22, which states targets for renewable energy generation in regional spatial strategies.

The guide sets out the technical issues associated with the different renewable energy technologies and their application in different environments. It is aimed at planners ands local and regional decision makers and includes a number of case studies.

The guide was put together by Arup in collaboration with Dulas and TNEI Services. Julian Hastings, Arup Project Manager, said: “The guide is intended to clarify some of the more difficult issues in order to help planners, the industry and the public to work together in the development of renewable energy schemes."
