ODA gives delivery lorries special safety lenses to help drivers spot bicycles

Olympic delivery lorries are to be fitted with safety lenses that allow cyclists to be seen more clearly by drivers.

More than 1,500 of the Fresnel lenses will be handed out by the UK's Olympic Delivery Authority. The lenses are fitted to the vehicle's cab window and cover the blind spot in which cyclists cannot easily be seen by truck drivers.

There have been a spate of accidents in London involving cyclists and lorries in recent weeks.

The most recent fatality occurred last Wednesday when a 31-year-old cyclist, Wan-Chen McGuiness, died after being hit by a lorry in Holborn.
