Populous Architect’s Olympic Stadium played host to a golden weekend for Team GB

The stadium, which has been shortlisted for the Stirling Prize, opened for athletics action on Friday, and over the course of the weekend welcomed 80,000 crowds each day.

On Saturday, the stadium played host to the finest evening in British athletics history, as heptathlete Jessica Ennis, long jumper Greg Rutherford, and 10,000m runner Mo Farah won three gold medals won by British athletes in a frenetic hour of sports.

The stadium was built by Sir Robert McAlpine.
