Construction of the £1.8bn One World Trade Center surpasses the Empire State Building

This week construction of the £1.8bn One World Trade Center reached the 100th floor (381m) to surpass the Empire State Building and become the tallest building in New York. SOM Architects’ and Tishman Construction’s tower is the biggest part of the £11bn World Trade Centre rebuilding project to replace the Twin Towers destroyed in the September 11th attacks. When the tower is eventually complete in 2013 it will become the tallest building in the US and the tallest office-only tower in the world reaching a height of 1,776ft.
