Coventry has reclaimed its city centre near to the cathedral with Millennium Square, the centrepiece of the £50m Phoenix Initiative, which combines architecture, landscaping and public artworks. The square has a spiral pedestrian bridge designed by artist Alexander Beleschenko and structural engineer Dewhurst Macfarlane, light bars set into the paving by artist Francoise Schein and a dramatic steel double arch overhead. The scheme was masterplanned by architect MacCormac Jamieson Prichard and landscape architect Rummey Design Associates, with Thyssen Construction as contractor and WT Partnership as cost consultant.
