Consulting engineer and asset manager Parkman Group has started recruiting in Australia to counter a shortage of UK engineers.
Chairman Richard Archer said nine engineers had joined the firm since he launched an advertising campaign in August.

He said he had targeted Australia because there were talented and well-trained engineers looking to work in the UK. New Zealand could also become a target.

He said: "Recruitment is a big issue for us because we are growing so fast. We need staff to cope with that but we won't sacrifice quality just for the sake of growing."

Archer was speaking as Parkman posted maiden interim results after listing on the stock exchange in early July.

Pre-tax profit rose 67% to £900,000 for the six months to 30 September and turnover increased 27% to £21.5m.
