Parsons Brinckerhoff has overcome competition from Mott MacDonald, Arup-Systra and Jacobs to win two design contracts on the new £32bn high speed rail line.

The £8m contracts were awarded by HS2 Ltd after a competitive tender process within lot two of its professional services framework, covering railway system design services.

The first contract, valued at £4.3m, covers the design of the high speed rail systems for phase one of the project, from London to Birmingham.

The second contract, valued at £3.7m, covers the design of modifications to the existing Network Rail system at Euston, Old Oak Common and the connection to the West Coast mainline.

The designs will be used to inform the hybrid bill documents that are due to be submitted to Parliament by the end of 2013.
