The National Federation of Builders has warned members that they could face brick shortages if workers at materials supplier Hanson vote for strike action.
Building revealed last week that more than 1000 Hanson staff are to be balloted over a series of one-day strikes in pursuit of a pay claim.

NFB marketing director Paul Kendrick said if the dispute was protracted it could lead to panic buying among NFB contractors.

Kendrick said smaller contractors would be hardest hit as they did not have the bulk-buying or storage facilities of larger firms.
