Architect David Morley has released images of designs for the £16m Lee Valley athletics centre at Pickett’s Lock, north-east London.

The site is the same as that pencilled in for a centre for UK athletics but then scrapped in 2001. The facility will replace a dilapidated sports centre with a 400 m outdoor and 200 m indoor track. It is part-funded by the government, which has contributed £4m, although there has been criticism that the centre ought to have been located nearer the Olympic zone in Stratford. The funding package also includes £7m from lottery distributor Sport England and £5m from the Lea Valley Regional Park Authority, which owns the land.
