The Scottish police have been asked to investigate claims that some site security firms in Glasgow are run by gangsters.
Bill Goodall, secretary of industry federation Scottish Building, said a leading Scottish contractor had expressed concerns to it, and that it had passed these on to the police.

He said the company claimed that it had been told to use certain security firms or face the consequences.

Goodall said: "We have made informal contact with the police to raise our concerns and to gain advice to prevent problems from occurring."

In another development, Scottish contractor Tulloch Construction has been warned by a local council in Scotland to review a decision to place a contract with an unnamed security firm on a public sector project.

A Tulloch insider said South Lanarkshire council believed that the security firm had criminal connections. The insider said the council felt obliged to raise the matter as the project was publicly funded.
