Berkeley Homes has refused to rule out returning to its original plan for the controversial Potters Fields site next to London’s Tower Bridge, despite commissioning a new design.

Ian Ritchie Architects’ design for the 386-home scheme was approved, but Southwark council, which owns part of the site, blocked it. Southwark and Berkeley then jointly commissioned Squire and Partners to design a new scheme, which was unveiled this week. Justin Tibaldi, Berkeley’s managing director, said he was not planning to return to the original scheme, but that “if things fall away on the planning permission, we may have to review that”.
