Prescott calls Greenpeace stunt to highlight energy efficient homes deplorable.

Around 20 Greenpeace campaigners climbed on to the roof of the deputy prime minister’s home in Hull this morning to install solar panels. The environmentalists also erected a banner which said: “Oi two Jags. Hit Targets, Not Voters.”

Mr Prescott told BBC News 24 that the stunt had “terrorised” his wife. “It’s deplorable and unacceptable even for a publicity stunt,” he said.

But Supt Gavin Collinson from Humberside Police said that they were “peaceful” protests.

Laura Yates, one of the campaigners, said: “We just hope that we’ll be able to give them [the Prescotts] some tips for improving the energy efficiency of their home.”

She added that they were leaving the panels, along with roof insulation and low-energy light bulbs as a present for Mr Prescott and his wife.
