Masdar joins forces with GE to fund a new centre to develop and showcase green technologies in zero-waste Masdar City

Masdar City, the world's first carbon-neutral and zero-waste city, is to get a dedicated R&D centre that will support the development of energy-efficient technologies and products in the region and raise awareness of energy conservation in the city's community.

The Ecomagination Centre is the result of an agreement between Masdar and the manufacturing and services giant GE. As well as focusing on sustainable business solutions and the development of new products, it will showcase GE technologies including wind, solar and other renewable energy products that will power the next generation of electrical grids. Also featured will be water purification technology and energy-efficient appliances for the home.

“This is truly a landmark partnership in the development of Masdar City, because it will allow us to jointly develop, deploy, scale and market innovative solutions in renewable energy and sustainability,” said Masdar chief executive Dr Sultan Al Jaber. “We are excited that GE will be an anchor tenant at Masdar City, as we aim to build the world's Silicon Valley for clean technology.”

The 4,000m2 Ecomagination Centre will located near to the Masdar Institute, Masdar's graduate level institution dedicated to academic research and study in the development and deployment of the future of energy.
