Wilkinson Eyre Architects have won the design competition for Crown Sydney Hotel Resort on the city’s harbourfront

A judging panel including Crown Resorts, Lend Lease, the Barangaroo Delivery Authority and the New South Wales Department of Planning picked the practice from a shortlist that also included Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill, and Kohn Pedersen Fox.

Crown Resorts chairman James Packer said the towering 350-bedroom hotel designed by Wilkinson Eyre key architects Chris Wilkinson and Paul Baker had come up with an iconic sculptural design that would be instantly recognisable around the world.

“Its iconic curves and fine lines celebrate the harbour and create an architectural ‘postcard’ that will help attract international tourists and assist Sydney to compete with other global destinations,” he said.

Crown and Lend Lease have an exclusivity agreement covering the development of a hotel Resort at Barangaroo South.

The firms are now set to start public consultation and seek approval from landowner Barangaroo Delivery Authority before lodging a planning application.
