Five year contract covers highways maintenance in Cheshire East

A Ringway Jacobs joint venture has won a £75m highways maintenance contract in Cheshire East.

The contract spans five years and covers highways maintenance, design and street lighting.

Bam Nuttall is the current highway services provider in the district – however Ringway Jacobs will take over the role from 6 October onwards.

The company’s winning bid was £5m less than the previous price and was favoured ahead of bids from Enterprise/Mouchel and Bam Nuttall.

Bill Taylor, managing director of Ringway Jacobs, said:  “This is an exciting time for Ringway Jacobs, Cheshire East council and their road users.

“We have enjoyed the procurement process and I feel we understand the needs of Cheshire East council, allowing us to deliver the key services whilst understanding local priorities and bringing about efficiencies in the way we deliver them.”

Cheshire East councillor Rod Menlove, responsible for environmental services, said:

“It has been a busy and challenging 14-month procurement process. I am very pleased with the outcome, which is down to an extensive, open and transparent consultation. The highways service is a vast and vital part of Cheshire East council.”
