Government announces €15m package to help homeowners

About 1,500 homes in Romania will need to be rebuilt after flooding this summer, the country's Ministry of the Interior has said.

The government is granting €2,700 to each owner of a destroyed home under a €14.66m aid package. A further €100m is being allocated to rebuild the road infrastructure and sewage networks in Suceava, Neamt, Botosani, Maramures and Harghita.

The five northern counties in the country were hit by floods this summer after the River Prut burst its banks, causing the worst flooding in the region for 40 years.
