Wates left scheme last August after failing to agree price

Seddon is tipped for a £24m scheme to redevelop Stockport college’s Wellington Road campus.

Building understands Trafford College Group has appointed the Bolton-based firm to complete the scheme (pictured) after previous contractor Wates withdrew last August after failing to agree a price.

In a statement at the time, Wates said “the scale and scope of the new campus is unfortunately unfeasible within the existing budget without compromising on the quality of the development”.

A new visitor entrance will be built linking the campus’s eight-storey Lyme Centre, which houses the college’s engineering and maths departments, with its arts department via a reception area. Project 3 Architects has designed the scheme.

Wates first won the deal in September 2018 which carried an initial price tag of £16m.
