Skyscraper lit up in Western Europe’s highest light show

The top 20 storeys of the 72-floor Shard skyscraper have been lit up in Western Europe’s highest light show.

The special display on Monday night - which featured four different light sequences - will be repeated on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

On the days in between, a shorter light show will take place every hour on the hour from dusk until dawn, creating a public art installation in the sky.

The installation on the Mace-built tower was created by lighting designers Woodroffe Bassett.

The display also aims to ‘shine a light’ on cancer care and Guy’s Cancer Centre next door to the Shard, which was built by Laing O’Rourke and opened in September.
