Bournemouth's Castlepoint Centre shut in run-up to Christmas.

A £200m shopping centre in Dorset has been temporarily closed due to carpark safety fears.

The Castlepoint Centre in Bournemouth closed on Wednesday night after problems with the car park. The two storey carpark has been monitored by the centre’s management since May when concrete fell from its roof prompting another closure.

A spokesman for the centre said: “At the moment we are still looking at what the issues are so we are not able to say how long will be [until it reopens].”

Shops could lose out on trade in the valuable pre Christmas period but the centre’s management said it would honour any contractual obligations concerning compensation for retailers.
