Flint announces 36 projects including Swindon pedestrian and cycle bridge, and Colchester park and ride

The government has announced the shortlisted schemes for a share of the £200m transport infrastructure fund for new housing developments.

Caroline Flint

Housing minister Caroline Flint and transport minister Rosie Winterton named the 36 projects, all on locations dedicated to building more homes and improving transport infrastructure to support the growth.

They include a pedestrian and cycle bridge in Swindon, a park and ride scheme in Colchester and a new entrance for Luton Parkway station.

Flint said: “These places are already stepping up to the mark to deliver more housing, so now we are looking to support that development by getting the right infrastructure in place.”

Winterton added: "Almost half of the investment will go to schemes that reduce the reliance on cars and encourage more sustainable travel.

“This presents real support to new communities with genuine ambitions for changing the way they travel."
