Contractor tol design and build extra facilities at HMP Glenochil and HMP Young Offenders Institute Polmont.

Contractor Skanska has won two contracts worth a total of £55m for the Scottish Prison Service.

The firm will design and build extra facilities at HMP Glenochil and HMP Young Offenders Institute Polmont. Work will begin on the two projects immediately.

Skanska has developed both sites over the past four years during its framework deal with the Scottish Prison Service, and will transfer expertise from four projects it has completed for the body. The contractor will now design and construct a new house block and Health Centre at HMP Glenochil and a new house block, segregation unit and regimes facility at HMYOI Polmont.

The award follows the announcement earlier this month that Skanska has been selected as preferred bidder on the £70m Midlothian Schools PPP scheme, its first education scheme in Scotland.
